The 24th Egmont Group Plenary Meeting was held in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), China from 2 to 7 July 2017. 354 participants representing 112 Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), 11 observer organisations and 8 international organisations attended this important event. For the first time, FIU of Kosovo (FIU-K) participated in its capacity as full member with equal rights to other counterpart units. The participation of FIU-K was supported by the EU/CoE Joint Project against Economic Crime (PECK II).
The agenda of the plenary meeting contained over 20 different activities, including main events, such as meetings of FIUs Heads, meetings of four working groups, regional meetings, AML/CFT training sessions and plenary meeting. Representatives of FIU-K contributed to two working groups: Membership, Support and Compliance Working Group (MSCWG) and Information Exchange on ML/FT Working Group (IEWG). FIU-K was also represented in the regional meeting of Europe II Region. Moreover, FIU-K participated as a member in meetings of FIUs Heads and Egmont Committee, in which main subjects were discussed such as: decisions for membership of new FIUs and observer organisations (European Commission and Europol), compliance issues and support for different jurisdictions, efforts to improve a constructive and timely exchange of information, achievements since the establishment of Egmont Group Centre for FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL). The new Chair of Egmont Group was endorsed during the meeting.
During the Plenary Meeting two new members have joined Egmont Group: KwFIU Kuwait and FIU Sudan, whereas the new membership of FIU Germany was endorsed due to its reorganisation into an administrative unit. The memberships show the latest developments in terms of expansion of Financial Intelligence Units’ global network.
